Where you can find them:

In the dense stands of raupō in wetlands around Lake Wairarapa, where they spend most of their time hiding. They forage along the edge of raupō stands in the Wairio Wetland and Boggy Pond although they’re extremely secretive and hard to spot. They can also be found as far as Fiji, the Cook Islands and Indonesia.

What they look like:

A small brown bird, with a blueish grey belly and red eyes.Their eggs are a dull brown or pinkish colour, with faint chestnut flecks.

Did you know:

Their nests are woven in a cup like shape and they usually sit in a clump of grass above the water level.
