Kanae raukura, yellow eyed mullet

live mostly in the ocean but frequently wander into estuaries and rivers

Where you can find them:

In harbours and estuaries in New Zealand and Australia. You can also spot the yellow eyed mullet in Lake Ōnoke and around the southern end of Lake Wairarapa.

What they look like:

Around 20cm in length, they are a silvery-grey colour with bright yellow eyes,

Did you know:

They can live to about seven years old.
