 He tono — Invitation

The Wairarapa Moana Statutory Board (WMSB) invites community restoration groups and other interested parties from around Wairarapa Moana to a vision consultation hui. Your knowledge of the whenua, waterways and local area will help shape a shared vision for Wairarapa Moana and the Ruamāhanga River catchment.

He aha te kaupapa? — What is this about?

The WMSB was established under the Te Rohe o Rongokako Joint Redress Act 2022 as part of the historical Treaty of Waitangi Settlements. The Board brings together the iwi of Ngāti Kahungunu and Rangitāne, South Wairarapa District Council, Greater Wellington Regional Council, and the Minister of Conservation, working to ensure the long-term restoration, protection and wellbeing of Wairarapa Moana and the Ruamāhanga River catchment.

As part of this work, the WMSB is developing a Vision and Desired Outcomes Document.  It will guide the long-term restoration, protection and enhancement of Wairarapa Moana and the Ruamāhanga River catchment.  Grounded in the intentions of the 1896 tuku rangatira and the return of Wairarapa Moana, this kaupapa seeks to create a shared vision for generations to come.

At the hui, we invite you to share your connection to the area, your knowledge of the whenua and waterways, what you value most, and your hopes for the future.

We recognise Wairarapa Moana and the Ruamāhanga catchment as a living, interconnected system encompassing whānau, hapū, iwi and communities across Wairarapa. Your whakaaro will help shape the long-term future of this treasured place

The stories and aspirations gathered through these wānanga will inform a draft Vision and Desired Outcomes Document, which will be shared with hapū and communities for further input before being finalised.

Nau mai, haere mai- Please join us to share your views and help shape the future of Wairarapa Moana and the Ruamāhanga River catchment.
