Our Special Logo

The Wairarapa Moana Wetlands Project has a stylish logo thanks to Claudia Hickey of St Matthew’s Collegiate School. In early 2012 Claudia won first prize in a competition to design a logo based on the goal to enhance the ecology, recreation and cultural opportunities around Wairarapa Moana.

Claudia hopes her design will “help native wildlife and promote beautiful Wairarapa”. She says “I chose the image I did because it has a Maori element to it, but it is also very simple. I have a triangle to represent the mountain or the Rimutaka Hill. I have an eel (tuna) coming out from beneath it.

I chose them because to me it’s all about the knowledge of the visitors, and educating them on the history and protection of the Wairarapa Moana Wetlands.”

St Matthew’s principal Erik Pedersen donated the prize money the school received back to the wetlands project. The money was used to buy native wetland plants that St Matthews’ pupils planted near the shore of Lake Wairarapa at Lake Domain Reserve, South Featherston.
