Ngāti Kahungunu ki Wairarapa, Rangitāne o Wairarapa and Papawai and Kohunui marae, the Department of Conservation, Greater Wellington Regional Council and South Wairarapa District Council are working together to protect and restore the ecology and recreational and cultural opportunities around Lakes Wairarapa and Onoke.
The prime focus of the project is the publicly owned land within the Wairarapa Moana catchment. Community groups, farmers and environmental and recreational groups are also working with the partner organisations on various projects and activities to realise the vision of “Whakaora te repo, ka ora te taonga wai - Restoring our wetland treasure”.
To support the delivery of the project goals there is a governance structure in place. Work funded by the Project is delivered under three programmes:
